Adrian Chase and Katie Conlon, both seniors at WSHS, have been nominated for competition at the National Honor Society Scholarship competition level. High School National Honor Society chapters from across the country were eligible to nominate two senior high members to compete. Adrian and Katie were selected based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, and academic record. One national scholarship recipient will receive a 13,000.00 award. Congratulations, and good luck to both!

Induction Ceremony
National Honor Society members accepted for the school year 2008-2009 and members who were selected earlier this school year for the school year 2007-2008, will be formally inducted into NHS on April 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. This is a formal occasion and will require business attire. Family and guests are invited.
Members are requested to be in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m. in preparation for the ceremony. A mandatory rehearsal will be conducted April 9 immediately after school in the auditorium. Membership dues must be up to date. If not sure, check with Ms. Roach, room 7-207.
Projects
All NHS members are expected to participate in several community projects and/or school projects. The members decide which projects they will do. Typical projects usually include an activity for Thanksgiving, Christmas, tutoring Winter Springs High students, and a designated charity such as St Jude’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, etc.
Benefits of Membership
There are many benefits for NHS members that will be asset to each student today and in the future:
The student is recognized and honored for academic achievement, service, leadership, scholarship, and character at school. Each member wears a gold cord at graduation and receives a special insignia on his/her diploma.
The member gains further experience in leadership and continues to develop the appreciation and importance of community service. Members learn to collaborate on new ideas, work with others, develop action plans, and gain personal confidence.
NHS membership is nationally recognized for scholarship achievement and, thus, is impressive to list on a job resume, a college scholarship application, and a college application form.
