Spanish National Honor Society Mission Statement:

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) Honor & Service Club. Promote the Spanish Language and Culture as a bridge to understanding other countries and culture. Students Pledge to master the Spanish Language one day. On Campus the Club sponsors a number of cultural events such as National Hispanic Heritage Month with assemblies and a Fiesta Night for our Hispanic students and parents, participate in the Homecoming Parade, sponsors Blood Drives, Provides tutoring services for students of Spanish every day before school and Tues. and Thurs. after school in room 5-104, represents WSHS at the Florida State Spanish Conference and Competition each year. Students must be in a Spanish class the school year they are to be inducted and have a 3.5 in Spanish and a 3.0 in their regular coursework to be considered for the Club. Club officers must be enrolled in a Spanish class the year(s) of their service. Inductions are held in February with a very solemn ceremony and guest speakers. Seniors may wear the red and gold honor cord at graduation when all service and monetary obligations to the Club are met. The Club raises money for it's expenditures and to send students to State Contest. Each year there is a Picnic Banquet where awards are given and the Club also provides monetary scholarships to it's top Native Speaker and Non-Native Speaker at the School's Awards Night. There are over 70 active members in SHS.
