Athletic Trainers are highly educated and skilled professionals specializing in athletic health care. The athletic trainer must fulfill the requirements for certification established by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, have a bachelor’s degree, and pass a certification examination. In addition, licensure is required in the state of Florida. The six practice domains of an athletic trainer are prevention of injury, recognition, evaluation, and assessment of injuries, immediate care of injuries, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of injuries, organization and administration, professional development and responsibility. In cooperation with our team physician, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic healthcare team at WSHS serving as a liaison between the parent, coach, overseeing physician, and athlete.
