The boys basketball team had a surprise guest speaker before they took to the track for conditioning on Thursday. Stan Van Gundy, the head coach of the Orlando Magic stopped by for a little Q and A with the players and coaches. He talked about how nothing in basketball or life is ever given to you and that "hard work" is the only way to become successful. He mentioned that NBA players are obviously very talented, but the thing that separates the good players from the great players is toughness, being smart, and hard work. He said the same can be said for almost any players in all sports. Later he talked about how important it is to be a good team mate and how hard it can be to do that. Good teammates don't think about themselves they only think about what's good for the team and the biggest "team" killer is selfishness. Lastly, he mentioned that kids today seem to have a lack of commitment. When things are not going their way or if they don't like something. Instead of working hard to fix the issue, they will just quit. Unfortunately, he didn't offer any insight into the NBA lockout or when it might end. So, if you want to watch basketball this year, you will have to come to a boys basketball game and support the Bears.
