HEAD COACH : Ross Bohlken Seniors Honored at Swim BanquetSix seniors were recognized for their accomplishments at this year’s Swimming and Diving banquet. Seniors Maddie Gonzalez, Adam Grippin, Jason Mammino, Katherine Stern, Jennifer Traylor and Emily Warrner said goodbye to their teammates as they accepted their Bear Pride Awards. Individual award winners included: Jason Mammino and Andrea Savino were this years Most Valuable Swimmer, Shannon Potter received the Most Valuable Diver Award. Mitch Ryerson and Emily Warrner won the Coaches Award. Jacob Mould and Chelsea Middleton won the Most Improved Award. 1st year Most Improved Award went to Patrick Kirchner and Alex Sheeler. Joe Travis and Zoe Goldberg won the Attitude Adjustment Award. The Over Achiever Award went to Will Gonzalez and John D’Amore. As a team the Swimming and Diving Team placed 3rd at Conference, Girls placed 4th at Districts and the Boys 6th at Districts, both Girls and Boys placed 17th at Regions and at the State Meet the Girls placed 31. Congratulations to the entire swimming and diving team on an outstanding season. Go Bears. November 10, 2008The men and women swim team season ended with some outstanding individual performances. Andrea Savino broke her own varsity record in the 100 backstroke placing 11th at this years Region meet with a time of 1.03.70. Andrea also placed 13th in the 200 free. Senior Jason Mammino finished his swim career at Winter Springs placing 9th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 free. Joe Travis swam a personal best time in the 100 back placing him 12th overall. Jacob Mould had a great season swimming a best time and placing 15th in the 200 free. Freshman Kelly Garrett capped off her season with a personal best time in the 100 back as veteran senior Emily Warrner wrapped up to her career swimming a personal best time in the 200 free. Graduating seniors from this years swim team are: Co Captains Jason Mammino and Adam Grippin, Co Captains Maddie Gonzalez and Emily Warrner. Katherine Stern and Jennifer Traylor. Good Luck Seniors November 4, 2008Senior Jason Mammino lead the Aqua Men to a 6th place finish at Districts. Jason had an outstanding District meet placing 4th in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 free qualifying him for Regionals in both events. Jacob Mould placed 8th in the 200 free, Joe Travis placed 8th in the 100 back both Jacob and Joe will advance to the Regional meet this Saturday. Qualifying to swim at Regions in the 200 and 400 free relay will be Big John D’Amore and Mitch Ryerson. Congratulations swimmers and good luck at Regionals. October 8,2008The Aqua Men swam well but fell just short of beating Lyman. Mitch Ryerson once again paced the Bears. Mitch won the 500 free and placed 2nd in the 200 free, both events were personal best times. Sophomore Ross Harrington won the 100 breaststroke and Jacob Mould placed 2nd in the 100 free. The Bears next meet is this Friday, October 10th at the Orlando YMCA. Teams from all over Florida will be attending in what is expected to be a very competitive swim meet.
October 3, 2008Jacob Mould leads Bears in Swim Meet Sophomore Jacob Mould lead the way for Winter Springs capturing the 200 free and 100 breast against Lake Brantley Wednesday night at the Oviedo Aquatic Center. Team mate Mitch Ryerson once again had personal best times in both the 100 fly and 100 back placing 1st in the fly and 2nd in the back. Co Captain Jason Mammino had a good showing placing 2nd in both the 50 and 100 free. John D’Amore won the 500 free and Ross Harrington finished 2nd in the 200 IM and 100 fly. The meet was ultimately decided by the 3 relays in which Lk Brantley won all 3. WSHS 130 LK Brantley 150 Aqua Men and Women Place 3rd at ConferenceIn what had to be one of the best team efforts in recent history the WSHS men and women swim team placed 3rd at this year’s SAC conference swim meet held last Thursday at Seminole HS. 52 out of the 55 individual swim events swum by WSHS swimmers placed in the top 16. 24 of those swims placed in the top 8. For the Lady Bears sprint freestyler Andrea Savino placed 3rd in the 100 free and 4th in the 50 free, Freshman Kelly Garrett placed 7th in the 100 back. Co Captains Emily Warrner placed 7th in the 500 free while Maddie Gonzalez placed 8 in the 100 breast. Swimming in a personal best time Kelsey Deese finished 8th in the 100 fly. Senior Jason Mammino had another strong meet finishing 4th in the 50 and 100 free. Mitch Ryerson and Jacob Mould both finished with two top 8 finishes. Mitch was 3rd in the 200 free and 6th in the 100 fly. Jacob was 5th in the 200 free and 5th in the 100 breast. Ross Harrington finished 4th in the 500 free and 8th in the 200 IM. Other Aqua Men placing in the top 8 were co captain Adam Grippin 7th in 100 breast, Joe Travis 4 th in the 100 back and swimming a great 500 free with a personal best time Will Gonzalez placed 5th. The Lady Bear divers did their part to help secure our 3rd place finish at conference. All 3 divers placed in the top 8. Freshman sensation Shannon Potter placed 4th while teammates Sara Bushey placed 6th and Amy Rumbaugh placed 7th.
